Receives specimens in the laboratory information system and distributes specimens to various departments for testing.
Retrieves specimens from storage for add on or repeat testing.
Provides for the age specific needs of the population served according to department standards and policies/procedures as evidenced by observation, documentation, and peer feedback for patients who range in age from birth to 100+ years.

- All third-party audits including but not limited to delegation, credentialing, compliance, privacy, National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), and SOC2.Assists with security audits as needed.
- Works with JVHL Business Services and Finance departments to complete periodic internal auditing for compliance by lab providers for correct coding and payment practices
- Compliance with all federal, state, and local compliance laws
- Ongoing employee and Executive Committee member training and testing of knowledge of applicable compliance laws, policies and procedures.

Privacy Roles and Responsibilities
- Provides development guidance and assists in the identification, implementation, and maintenance of organization information privacy policies and procedures in coordination with leadership and legal counsel.
- Performs periodic privacy risk assessments and conducts related ongoing compliance monitoring activities in coordination with the entity’s other compliance and operational assessment functions
- Establishes with leadership a mechanism to track access to protected health information as required by law
- Reviews all system-related information security plans throughout the organization to ensure alignment between security and privacy practices and acts as a liaison to the information systems department

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs all professional activities related to Hematology and Chemistry.
Operate current instrumentation
Perform manual testing
Perform STAT tests, such as CBC, PTT and Protime within 30 minutes of receipt in laboratory
Perform and report STAT tests such as electrolytes, BUN, Creatinine, cardiac enzymes and therapeutic drug levels within 45 minutes after receipt in laboratory
Use computer to order tests, determine tests ordered and report results in an appropriate timeframe. An appropriate timeframe will be based on clinical diagnosis, priority expressed by order, and normal values for patient's age and sex
Compiles data for special reports and quality improvement activities
Answer the telephone, using good communication skills
Make reagents
Responsible for validity of daily test results and quality control
Maintain records of all quality control procedures
Perform preventive maintenance on all instrumentation
Able to resolve somewhat highly complex problems in all laboratory sections
Participate in accurate collection of workload statistics
Able to work alone in department for complete shifts
Train students and new personnel
Observe proper safety practices in performance of job duties

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related science from an accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE
Baccalaureate degree with major in Medical Technology or related science. Post-degree laboratory based internship preferred.
Board certification or eligibility by ASCP, ASMT, HEW (HHS)or equivalent at the Medical Technologist level or equivalent preferred.
Must be able to perform high complexity testing as defined by CLIA 88’.

Description: Trims fixed tissues regardless of route of submission maintaining proper turnaround times. Make the data entry into PTOE and Transcription. Decal fixed samples when needed. Fixes tissues in formaic acid or formalin if needed. Stores and disposes wet tissues according to EHS guidelines. Transport and load trimmed tissues onto the tissue processors in the Histology lab. Takes and annotates pictures of fixed tissues using the Spot Software and digital camera. Maintains a safe and clean work environment. Instructs and trains other staff on how to trim various types of fixed tissues. Helps to identify and solves technical and submission problems. Consults with veterinarians and other clients in order to provide information on selecting the correct test. Works with pathologists, residents, students, researchers and other VDL staff to trouble shoot trimming questions, e.g. submission errors, inconsistencies in trimmed versus embedded tissues, proper margin and tissue identification etc. Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs of complex lab equipment and calibrates instruments in order to ensure reliable results. Ensures accurate test ordering and billing. Maintains QA/QC records, identifies variances, resolves QA/QC issues. Maintains proper PPE according to EHS requirements and ensures that personnel working in the trimming lab and on the necropsy floor follow proper PPE protocols. Participates in VDL activities, staff meetings and process improvement efforts. Follows and drafts Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). Unloads necropsy animals when needed. Works on BSL2 and BSL3 necropsy floor when the need arises, e.g. TB surveillance.

Qualifications: Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in science or two-year associates degree program in Applied Science Medical Laboratory Technician including a six-month internship at an approved institution laboratory; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic laboratory techniques; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
